The Department of Transportation Engineering Technology at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) supports the university’s vision to become a global technical university in sustainable technology and transportation, while developing rail transportation talent for Malaysia’s rapidly expanding rail industry.

The department offers the Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Rail Transportation with Honours (BNT), a comprehensive railway-focused programme covering rolling stock, trackwork & rail infrastructure, signalling and communication, power and electrification, as well as railway operations and safety. The curriculum integrates strong engineering fundamentals with hands-on learning and is continuously aligned with industry needs through annual Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) engagements.

A key strength of the department is its Work-Based Learning (WBL) model, combining three years of on-campus study with one year of structured industrial training through close university-industry collaboration. Supported by experienced, multidisciplinary academic staff, the department nurtures future-ready rail talent for sustainable and efficient rail transportation systems.
