Bachelor of Civil Engineering Technology in (Building Services) with Honours is aims to produce graduates who are competent, independent and mature to meet nation's needs for skilled professionals and experts in the field of civil engineering technology for the public and private sectors or even self-employed. This program is designed to be consistent with the vision and mission of the University. Through this program, the graduates are expected to be part of the talent that will propel the development of the state in accordance with the aspirations of Vision 2020. This is made possible with the availability of courses emphasizing new technologies that covers the theory and practical skills needed in this field. The students of this program are also exposed to the variety of activities that can boost their generic skills.



Bachelor of Civil Engineering Technology (Environment) with Honours is aims to produce graduates with both engineering and applied sciences knowledge and skills to investigate, plan, design, manufacture and maintain the systems and equipments used in various aspects of environmental solutions. As oppose to other Environmental Engineering degree programmes, this unique programme is designed to offer graduates who are more focused on the technologies and systems that make up a good environmental solutions to meet demand for skilled professionals in plants, manufacturing, consultants, education and management in the public, private or self-employed sectors. In order to produce the graduates with excellent theory and practical skills, this programme is also expected to prepare the graduates with generic skills consistent with the vision and mission of the University.



Bachelor of Civil Engineering Technology (Constructions) with Honours is aims to produce graduates who are competent, mature and exposed with knowledge and technical skills based on the latest technology to meet the demand of current market. The program is structured to be more practical than the conventional pure engineering degree program. The students of this programme will be exposed to planning, design, managing and inspection of construction such as buildings, roads, dams, bridges and airports. This program is designed and emphasized on the practical applications of civil engineering principles. The student of this program undertake courses such as engineering mechanics, surveying, computer aided design, structural design, materials, soils, hydrology and construction technology. Most of these courses are the integration of field, laboratory and workshop activities that could enhance the understanding of the civil engineering technology applications in constructions. The industrial training (1 semester) in public or private companies allows graduates to enhance their skills and preparing themselves for their future career. 



The building services teams work closely with other engineering disciplines, architects, structural engineers and quantity surveyors on construction projects. The range of services required in our modern buildings is continuously expanding offering building services engineering graduates a challenging and rewarding career choices and the chance to play a dynamic role in the future of our environment.

On the other hand the environment sector are required in large numbers of area from process engineering, environmental chemistry, water and wastewater treatment, waste reduction management to pollution prevention. Professional graduates from this programme are able to work with government, private agencies, non-government organization (NGOs) and they are also bright in research and development (R&D) area working towards maintaining clean environment, green development and sustainable growth for our future.  

The graduates from the construction will have opportunities to work in government and private agencies. They could be engineering technologists in government sector and engineer in private sectors. They are also able to work with contractors and consultants in the construction industries. In field of R&D, the graduates are able to be research officers in government and private sectors.

  2. Automatik Wide Belt Sanders: The calibration phase allows for any reduction in the thickness of the panel by removing a layer and ensuring it is perfectly straight; while the sander renders the surface completely smooth.
    Both phases take place as the panel passes under the abrasive belts that are of varying degrees of abrasiveness depending on how much material needs to be removed and the type of wood being worked.
  3. Motrising Chisel Machine: A mortiser or morticer is a specialized woodworking machine used to cut square or rectangular holes in a piece of lumber (timber), such as a mortise in a mortise and tenon joint.
  4. Dust Extractor: Designed to handle high-volume dust loads, a dust collector system consists of a blower, dust filter, a filter-cleaning system, and a dust receptacle or dust removal system. It is distinguished from air purifiers, which use disposable filters to remove dust.

Total Station: A total station is an electronic/optical instrument used in modern surveying and building construction that uses electronic transit theodolite in conjunction transit theodolite in conjunction with electronic distance meter (EDM).   2. Auto Level: A dumpy level, builder's auto level, levelling instrument, or automatic level is an optical instrument used to establish or verify points in the same horizontal plane. It is used in surveying and building with a vertical staff to measure height differences and to tansfer, measure and set height.
  3. Surveying Prism:This offset is the most advantageous at close range work when the apex or center of the prism is used as a pointing target for vertical and horizontal angle measurement. Every surveying prism has a nodal offset.

  2. Circular Arm Saw: The radial arm saw is a multi-purpose tool. It not only crosscuts and rips lumber but it can also be configured for use as a jointer, drill, router, sander, and lathe. The saws primary function is crosscutting. It can make a variety of crosscuts including: straight, miter, bevel, dadoe, and rabbet cuts.
    Both phases take place as the panel passes under the abrasive belts that are of varying degrees of abrasiveness depending on how much material needs to be removed and the type of wood being worked.
  3. Wood Planer:Generally all planes are used to flatten, reduce the thickness of, and impart a smooth surface to a rough piece of lumber or timber. Planing is also used to produce horizontal, vertical, or inclined flat surfaces on workpieces usually too large for shaping, where the integrity of the whole requires the same smooth surface. Special types of planes are designed to cut joints or decorative mouldings.

  4. TL 2300 Turbidimeter: The TL2300 laboratory turbidimeter measures the scattered light from water samples to determine the turbidity value of the samples.
  5. Microbiological Incubator: An incubator is a device used to grow and maintain microbiologicalcultures or cell cultures. The incubator maintains optimal temperature, humidity and other conditions such as the carbon dioxide (CO2) and oxygen content of the atmosphere inside.
  6. BOD Incubator: BOD Incubator (Bio-Oxygen Demand) are used to maintain temperature for test tissue culture growth,storage of bacterial cultures and incubation where high degree of constant temperature accuracy is required.
  7. Laminar Flow: A laminar flow cabinet or laminar flow closet or tissue culture hood is a carefully enclosed bench designed to prevent contamination of semiconductor wafers, biological samples, or any particle sensitive materials.
  8. E-sampler: E-Sampler is a type of nephelometer which automatically measures and records real-time airborne PM10,PM2.5, or TSP particulate concentration levels using the principle of forward laser light scatter.
  9. DRB200 COD Reactor: The DRB200 thermostat ideally complements the Hach reagents (COD, TOC, Test 'N' tube).

Under the Department of Civil Engineering Technology, the Building Intelligent Managemet (BIM) Focus Group was form to concentrate on research activities related to Building modelling up to 4D (including time/program information), 5D (Cost information) and 6D (fasility management information). Our vision is to become research excellence in generating and applying innovative discovery of digital technology for sustainable development.

BIM acronym is used to denote two concepts Building Information Model (i.e. a shared information model) and  Building Information Modeling (i.e. an information management methodology). BIM currently is the most active field of Construction Informatics research globally. Building Information Modeling is a methodology that addresses the problems related to sharing of information, interoperability and efficient collaboration throughout the lifecycle of a building (i.e. from feasibility and conceptual design through to demolition and re-cycling stages). This well-known methodology has origins in two distinct but related fields. The first one is Computer Aided Design (CAD), the latter one is Representation of Building Product Information -in an organised manner-. Building Information Modelling has been realised as a process of managing a project through a single shared information backbone

Pertemuan pertama diantara Professor Adjung JTKA bersama staf JTKA

Profesor Adjung Dato’ Sr. Zulkefli Mohd Zain telah dilantik sebagai Professor Adjung bagi Jabatan Teknologi Kejuruteraan Awam, Fakulti Teknologi Kejuruteraan, UTHM Kampus Pagoh. Perlantikan ini berkuatkuasa dari 1 Januari 2018 sehinnga 31 Desember 2018. Dato’ Sr Zulkefli Mohd Zain, CEO Design Cost Consultants, telah dilantik berdasarkan pengalaman beliau selama 36 tahun dalam bidang industri pembinaan, perniagaan, dan pendidikan, amat bermanfaat untuk dikongsi bersama para pelajar.

Sesi perkongsian ilmu dan pertukaran pendapat ini diadakan pada 11 Februari 2018, di Bilik Mesyuarat 2, Aras 1, UTHM-Kampus Pagoh. Perjumpaan ini melibatkan Tuan Dekan, Ketua Jabatan, Ketua-ketua Program serta semua staf JTKA.Tujuan “sharing session” atau pertemuan pertama ini diadakan adalah untuk berbincang mengenai perkara-perkara yang dibangkitkan semasa akreditasi.

Selain itu, kursus-kursus yang terlibat iaitu Engineering Economy, Integrated Construction Project (ICP) dan PSM turut akan dibincangkan dalam sesi ini. ‘Project Financing: Construction Project Financing with Special Reference to PFI Projects’

This industrial talk aims at providing the student with advanced concepts of engineering economic analysis and its role in engineering decision making. It is designed to offer the students the information needed for rigorous presentation of the effect of the time value of money on engineering problem solving and the capacity to act with ethical and efficient professionalism. Moreover, this talk will also provide

the students the information needed for their project. The talk presented include present worth analysis, annual cash flow, rate of return, future worth analysis, and payback period. Additionally, this industrial talk also covers topics such as financial planning, after tax analysis, economic optimization, project scheduling, legal and regulatory issues, and estimation of future events. This talk adds a compulsory knowledge for any project management professional in engineering fields.

Plant and Machineries and also about the Conditions of Contract

PAGOH : On 16th of April 2018, Dato’ Zulkefli had came to Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) Pagoh campus to give talks about the Plant and Machineries and also about the Conditions of Contract. Dato’ Zulkefli is the owner of the Design Cost Consultants the partnership company. He had more than 36 years of experience in construction industry, business and education. Besides, Dato’ Zulkefli also awarded plenty of awards such as the award of excellence. He had a lot of expertise such as in Quantity Surveyor, Project Management Consultant, Project Lead Consultant and others.

During the morning session, he first talked on the Plant and Machineries. He shared his own experiences on handling plant and machineries. He emphasized on planning of plant and machineries depending on the size of the project that are going to be done.

After take a break, Dato’ Zulkefli continued to give the talk on the Conditions of Contract. On this evening session, he is expertise on this topic as he is a consultant and he had a lot of experiences on dealing contracts. He explained the meaning and how to understand contracts. He also emphasized on the rights of contractor. At the end of the talks, the students were given opportunities to ask questions to him. Lastly, Dato’ Zulkefli was given an appreciation gift for giving and sharing knowledge and also experiences that he had.

This Industrial Talk held on 20 March 2018, at Auditorium 3, Shared Facilities, Pagoh Eduhub. This programme consists of 4 main parts which are introduction, talks, questions and answers slot and closing. For the introduction part, it was delivered by Faculty of Engineering Technology very own Adjunct Professor, Dato’ Sr Zulkefli Bin Mohd Zain. In his opening speech, the most highlighted content is that every engineer today need to be skilful and able to master in various fields give it technical, law and regulations, management and even entrepreneurship. The ability to master these kinds of fields will upsurge the value of an engineer and thus, create a higher demand of that particular engineer in industry. In this session, Dato’ Sr Zulkefli shared his personal experiences dealing with many people from many background including legislation, business and management. These inspiring stories will surely enhancing students’ intense to learn more and to do more in their future. The next session is the most vital part of the programme which is the talk on awareness towards the industry: building services. In this part, many important aspects of building services were covered by Dato’ Sr Zulkefli and his Mechanical Engineer, Ir Mardianto Hj Asli. Among the topics covered are fire and security, air-conditioning system, piping, plumbing and green technology. Every aspects covered are provided with details information on what is the definition of the system, how the system running and many more. These information are very helpful and needed by the students to increase their understanding on their future. Questions and answers slot is the next part of the programme. In this session, students are open to ask any questions related to the topics covered in the previous session. Much confusions from the student regarding building services are solved by the answers provided by both panels. Last but not least is the closing session. In this session, Dato Sr’ Zulkefli summed up the talks with few inspiring stories, his hope and vision of future engineer technologist produced by UTHM. The programme ended after souvenirs giving ceremony and photograph session.

INDUSTRIAL TALK : “Integrated Construction Project (ICP)”

Pada 11 Mac 2018 yang jatuh pada hari Ahad, Professor Adjung Dato’ Sr. Zulkiflil bin Mohd. Zain telah sudi datang ke UTHM untuk memberikan taklimat berkaitan Integrated Construction Project (ICP) untuk Kelas 3 BNC pada jam 2.00 – 5.00 petang di bilik BK7. Beliau telah berkongsi pengalaman beliau di dalam projek Cadangan Membina Dua (2) Blok (537 Unit) Perumahan Rakyat Mampan Di Atas Sebahagian Lot 55511 (Pt9204), 55964 (Pt7246), Pt9110 Untuk Projek Usahasama Di Antara Tetuan Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur & Tetuan Retro Highland Sdn.Bhd. (Phase 1b). Taklimat yang padat, berisi dan penuh semangat yang disampaikan sedikit sebanyak membantu dalam pelaksanan kursus ICP yang sedang dilalui oleh pelajar. Selain itu, Prof. juga memberi banyak motivasi dan semangat kepada pelajar dalam persediaan menghadapi cabaran di dunia pekerjaan nanti. Awards and publication is intended to support participants who promote the visibility reputation of Faculty of Engineering Technology at High Education Hub, UTHM Pagoh Campus through the dissemination of research in indexed journals. The awards are designed to recognize research that aligns to digital teaching and learning, civic learning and community engagement in higher education for the global common/public good, and workplace competence development and assessment. Most established academic disciplines have their own journals and other outlets for publication, although many academic journals are somewhat interdisciplinary, and publish work from several distinct fields or subfields. There is also a tendency for existing journals to divide into specialized sections as the field itself becomes more specialized. Along with the variation in review and publication procedures, the kinds of publications that are accepted as contributions to knowledge or research differ greatly among fields and subfields. Thus, this awards publication tendency to give an inspiration and motivate student directly to innovate new product and be creative in production.
